JunHe recently won Global Competition Review’s award “Merger Control Matter of the Year-Asia-Pacific, Middle East and Africa” for Broadcom's acquisition of VMware. JunHe advised VMware in the project, and the JunHe team was led by partners Janet Hui and GONG, Mingfang and consultant WANG, Dongxin.
The Global Competition Review is a world-renowned competition law media outlet, and each year it selects and identifies the leading competition law projects and professionals around the world. This award-winning project was one of the most influential and important projects in the Asia Pacific, Middle East and Africa region. The award reflects the professional capabilities of JunHe’s antitrust team and demonstrates its strength in the field.
The project involved the acquisition by Broadcom, a U.S. listed semiconductor company, of VMware, a U.S. listed virtualization software company, at a total price of US $61 billion. It was the largest ever acquisition project in the global semiconductor sector. JunHe advised VMware on the merger control filing in China , and the project was approved after 14 months.
JunHe’s team provided the client with outstanding legal services. The project involved the semiconductor and virtualization software markets and had a complicated industry structure. JunHe’s team assisted the client in responding to multiple rounds of questions, economic analysis, negotiations and onsite interviews. It involved an acquisition in the U.S. semiconductor industry, the review period was long, and had many complex factors. Despite the difficulties and uncertainties of the regulatory approvals, JunHe’s team actively assisted the client in controlling the overall timetable.
