At the Intersection of Technology and Law: JunHe’s Dr. Wang Zhaohui Honored in GCP’s Top 20 Women in Business Law 2026

2026.09.19

On September 9, the legal research organization GCProfiles (GCP) released its list of  Top 20 Women in Business Law 2026, and JunHe’s Dr. WANG, Zhaohui (Zoe) was recognized. The list focuses on the Chinese commercial legal services market, highlighting female legal practitioners with outstanding professional skills and market influence.

Dr. WANG, Zhaohui (Zoe) holds a bachelor's degree in biology from Wuhan University, a Ph.D. from Duke University and a J.D. from Columbia University. She is qualified as a lawyer in New York State, a registered agent with the United States Patent and Trademark Office and a patent agent in China. Her early academic work in biomedicine allows her to grasp the complex technical logic behind innovative drugs. Dr. Wang’s extensive work experience in law firms in both China and the U.S. provides a solid foundation for handling cross-border patent matters.

Dr. Wang’s scientific background enables her to comprehend the complex technical logic behind innovative drugs. She handles challenging patent validation and cross-border patent infringement disputes and assists foreign clients in major patent disputes at the Supreme People's Court level. Dr. Wang also focuses on intellectual property services in the capital market, laying a solid patent foundation for numerous domestic innovative pharmaceutical companies seeking to list on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange. In recent years, she has led her team as intellectual property consultants in Hong Kong IPO projects for several biopharmaceutical companies including Yiming Angke, Codexis, Recbio, Bio-Thera Solutions, Insilico Medicine and InnoCare Pharma. Dr. Wang’s work involves core aspects of IPO preparation such as patent due diligence on core products, global freedom-to-operate (FTO) risk assessments, and assisting companies in responding to intellectual property inquiries from the Hong Kong Stock Exchange. Her role goes beyond producing a due diligence report; she must translate complex patent information into ‘technical credentials’ that investors can understand and use to make informed decisions.

Dr. Wang’s client list includes multinational pharmaceutical giants and innovative domestic enterprises. Her services span from top global pharmaceutical companies to startup biotech firms, covering different stages of the industry chain. Amid the wave of Chinese biopharmaceutical companies listing in Hong Kong, Dr. Wang has established a differentiated professional position in this niche field, leveraging her expertise in both U.S. and Chinese legal domains and a service chain covering the entire patent lifecycle.

Dr. Wang's resume shows a clear transoceanic trajectory. Early in her career, she practiced at the New York offices of Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP and Brown Raysman Millstein Felder & Steiner LLP. She later played a key role in establishing the Shanghai office of Perkins Coie LLP and served as managing partner. After joining JunHe, Dr. Wang has been based in Shanghai where she serves multinational pharmaceutical companies, local innovative biotech firms and investment institutions. Her cross-border work experience in both China and the U.S. equips her with local insights and an international perspective when handling diverse matters such as cross-border patent litigation, patent portfolio management, technology licensing transactions and capital market intellectual property due diligence.

"Patents are not just a technological moat; they are a common language for business dialogue," says Dr. Wang about her patent work. Amid the wave of innovation in biomedicine, the boundaries between technology and law continue to merge. With her combined scientific knowledge and legal experience, Dr. Wang defends the rights of innovators in disputes and supports industry growth in the capital market, demonstrating the professional value of women in business law.

With years of industry experience, Dr. Wang has received continuous recognition from authoritative legal rating agencies such as Chambers, The Legal 500, IAM Patent 1000 and ALB. She has been listed repeatedly in various recommendation sequences and has twice won the ALB China Top 15 Intellectual Property Lawyers award, among other industry honors. In her view, the true significance of these recognitions lies not in personal accolades but in raising more awareness among innovative companies about the importance of intellectual property in business decision-making.
