On July 7, the legal media journal LEGALBAND announced its 2026 Power List. JunHe partner WANG, Zhao (George) was recognized as a Top 15 Managing Partner and partnerMA, Jun was honored as a Top 15 Regional Star. One partner safeguards JunHe’s steady progress through institutional means, while the other acts as a bridge to connect Chinese and Japanese business networks. Their achievements are a vivid testament to the 37 years of professionalism at JunHe.
WANG, Zhao (George): From the Courtroom to the Management Table
In 1994, Mr. WANG, Zhao (George) joined JunHe. Over the past 32 years, his career trajectory has almost entirely overlapped with the firm's development—he has been both a witness and a participant in its growth.
Mr. Wang's track record is solid and impressive: he represented Johnson & Johnson Medical Devices in China's first vertical monopoly agreement antitrust litigation and was a core member in a series of arbitrations and litigations involving the Danone and Wahaha joint venture dispute. Over more than three decades, he has expanded his expertise in the major areas of dispute resolution, antitrust and compliance. His skills have earned him multiple selections on international authoritative media lists such as Chambers, The Legal 500 and asialaw.
In 2023, Mr. Wang was elected as a member of JunHe's Management Committee, overseeing the business department and managing conflict of interest, risk control and business management. Transitioning from advocating for clients' legal rights in court to building a defensive line for the firm in management meetings, he has made the leap from ‘case justice’ to ‘institutional safety’. He has faced the challenges of the firm’s expansion alongside increasingly stringent regulations and he systematically reshaped our risk control processes. Mr. Wang led the resolution of several complex issues such as cross-business line conflicts of interest and new business compliance boundaries, establishing a solid and responsive defense for JunHe's steady journey forward.
Mr. Wang also serves as the head of JunHe's Shanghai office dispute resolution team. Under his leadership, it has become one of the largest dispute resolution teams within JunHe. They have successfully handled numerous major cross-border disputes in recent years, earning high recognition from clients for their professional capabilities.
Thirty-two years, advancing step by step, Mr. Wang has wasted no effort. From a sharp courtroom lawyer to a strategic institutional designer, he will continue on his winning path.
MA, Jun : Deepening Regional Ties, Bridging China and Japan
If Mr. Wang Zhao's story is about ‘guarding’ and ‘advancing’, Mr. Ma Jun's chapter is about ‘crossing’ and ‘connecting’.
Mr. Ma Jun has a strong educational background in Japanese law, having graduated from Dokkyo University Faculty of Law and Waseda University Graduate School of Law in Japan. He spent 15 years practicing in Japanese law firms before joining JunHe in 2015 and this long period of overseas practice gives him a deep understanding of Japanese business ethics and legal practices. It has honed his ability to navigate across cultures and legal domains with ease.
After joining JunHe, Mr. Ma has focused on foreign investment, corporate mergers and acquisitions, and Japanese business. He has deepened his expertise in Chinese enterprises' investments in Japan and international business, and with his extensive cross-border transaction experience, he has fully participated in projects such as foreign direct investment, mergers and acquisitions and divestment liquidation. Mr. Ma also has experience in corporate compliance and labor law, with his practice covering construction, chemical, food, manufacturing, automotive, international trade, financial services, pharmaceutical and IT industries.
Fifteen years of cross-border work has endowed him with the skills to navigate different legal domains and with more than ten years at JunHe he is well-versed in Chinese law. Mr. Ma views legal issues from the perspective of his clients' business landscapes, transforming rigorous legal principles into practical and feasible solutions.
In a world of changing fortunes, only those with deep knowledge remain strong.
The recognition of these two partners is a personal honor and a reflection of JunHe's continuous efforts in management governance and cross-border layout. As the legal market becomes increasingly complex, JunHe needs managers like Mr. Wang, who builds institutional foundations, and bridgebuilders like Mr. Ma, who breaks through barriers with expertise. Legalband’s Power List is a timely review of our partners skills and JunHe looks forward to many more successful journeys in the decades ahead.
