Change of Career Path
Mr. Zhao studied at Shanghai Jiao Tong University where he obtained dual degrees in medicine and law. He chose to continue his studies and successfully earned a master's degree in medicine. After graduation, Mr. Zhao joined a pharmaceutical company, engaging in project feasibility studies, new drug registration, and patent affairs. Although this was a respectable and stable job, Mr. Zhao gradually developed a new vision for his career as he wanted to integrate his knowledge and work experience in medicine and law to step onto a broader stage. After careful consideration, Mr. Zhao decided to enter the field of intellectual property law, embarking on a new chapter in his legal career.
After joining JunHe's patent group, Mr. Zhao started as a patent specialist and quickly advanced with his diligent and pragmatic work attitude. In 2021, Mr. Zhao was successfully promoted to partner, excelling in the co-development of technology and intellectual property licensing in biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, chemical products, and materials. In recent years, Mr. Zhao has successfully assisted clients in completing over 150 licensing and transfer transactions, such as Genor Biopharma's USD 400 million NewCo-based overseas investment, the commercial cooperation between Imunopharm and Huadong Medicine for the CD19, autologous CAR-T IM19 injection, and the USD 2 billion licensing and cooperation agreement between ImmuneOnco and Instil Bio.
A Bright Future
Mr. Zhao has been recognized by his clients as a professional and experienced expert in the fields of intellectual property and BD transactions. However, he remains humble and views the future as a stage of infinite possibilities. Faced with a rapidly changing business environment, Mr. Zhao perceives the complexity and diversity of his clients’ needs and realizes that the traditional single service model can no longer keep up with the latest market developments. He focuses on change and provides clients with one-stop, comprehensive legal service solutions. Mr. Zhao observes his clients' specific needs from different perspectives during their various development stages and tailors strategies to help them stand out in the fiercely competitive market, move forward, and achieve sustainable development.
Being named as one of ALB China’s Top 15 IP Lawyers, Mr. Zhao is deeply honored and is full of confidence for the future. He said, "This honor is a recognition of the efforts and professional knowledge of both me and my team. It inspires us to continue to provide high-quality legal services to our clients and to help the Chinese pharmaceutical industry thrive in the future."
