Following graduation, Mr. Chen worked for the Faculty of Law at Shantou University, lecturing on international commercial law and maritime law, and worked as a part time lawyer for a law firm in Guangdong Province. During which time, he co-authored and published two textbooks: Study on International Commerce Laws and Maritime Law. He also published many articles for numerous academic periodicals.
In 2001, he joined Wang Jing & Co. and practiced shipping and insurance law related to the bill of lading, charter party, collision, oil pollution, P&I, hull and machinery, cargo insurance, and liability insurance. He became a partner in 2008 and was put in charge of their commercial division. In 2015, Mr. Chen left Wang Jing & Co. to join JunHe as a partner in the Shanghai office.
Mr. Chen has been dedicated for many years to dispute settlement for foreign-related commerce, including many major influential cases at home and abroad. In recent years, many cases under his leadership in the insurance and trade areas (such as director and officer liability insurance, reinsurance, general commercial insurance, trade credit insurance and letter of credit, demand guarantee, and trade financing) has proven to be at the cutting edge of Chinese judicial practice.
Mr. Chen’s current practice focuses on insurance, trade, finance, shipping, corporate and foreign-related commerce matters, both contentious and non-contentious. In addition, Mr. Chen has acted as an agent ad litem for many clients, handling numerous cases for compliance and regulatory, liability defense and dispute settlement. These cases have been in regard to insurance operation, claim handling, product liabilities, public liabilities, medicine liabilities, food safety, security frauds, commercial bribes and equity disputes. Most of these cases have had significant influence all across China. Mr. Chen’s work on these cases have contributed significantly to his professional experience, and his clients have been steadfast in their recognition of his professional ability and ethics.
Mr. Chen was selected on the list of outstanding lawyers at Acritas Stars in 2020. In 2022, he was selected into the "Stand out Lawyers" list of Thomson Reuters. In 2022 and 2023, he was consecutively selected as one of the top insurance law lawyers in the Asia Pacific Legal 500.
