Professional Experience

Mr. Zou has extensive experience in many areas relating to litigation and arbitration proceedings in China in his 30 years practice. He has successfully represented many multi-national companies in complex commercial litigation, intellectual property compliance investigation, white-collar crime and FCPA issues. The cases he handled were awarded as "Top 10 Foreign-Related IP Cases of Recent Years" as selected by the Beijing 1st Intermediate Court, and, "Top 50 IP Cases of China 2010" as selected by the Supreme Court.


Mr. Zou created the method of infringement comparison in online video game works in the copyright infringement case of the online game World of Legend in 2003. The method has been widely accepted by Chinese courts and is still in use. The People’s Supreme Court has supported the doctrine of Commercial Opportunity Protection that Mr. Zou initiated in the case of “Kelp Quota” in 2006. He has also discovered the loopholes in Article 151 of the PRC Company Law while representing an international client and has been therefore advancing the amendment of Article 151 and relevant arbitration rules.  His opinion of Art. 151 of Company Law was adopted by the Supreme People’s Court.


Prior to 1994, he was an assistant professor at China University of Political Science and Law. Over this period, he taught intellectual property law and conducted substantial legal research relating to corporate, foreign investment and commercial law.


From July 1999 to July 2000, Mr. Zou studied English law at the University of London, SOAS and worked at Linklaters & Alliance as an apprentice (stagiaire) and a member of the Practical Training Scheme for Young Chinese Lawyers sponsored by The English Law Society.

Mr. Zou was awarded the Leading Lawyers in Asia Pacific in 2016 and was awarded the Leading Lawyer in Dispute Resolution in 2017 and 2018 by Asialaw Profiles.


Mr. Zou has been awarded the Recommended Lawyer in Dispute Resolution by the Legal 500 for five consecutive years since 2018.


Mr. Zou was awarded the "ALB China Top 15 Litigators" in 2022.
