On May 22, 2025, the London Court of International Arbitration (LCIA) announced the appointment of Dr. Arthur (Xiao) Dong, a partner at JunHe LLP, along with seven other international arbitration experts from various jurisdictions as new members of the LCIA Arbitration Court.
Established in 1892, the LCIA is the world's oldest permanent international arbitration institution, and one of the world’s leading international institutions for commercial dispute resolution. The LCIA provides efficient, flexible and impartial administration of arbitration and other ADR proceedings, regardless of location, and under any system of law. The international nature of the LCIA’s services is reflected in the fact that, typically, over 80% of parties in pending LCIA cases are not of English nationality.
The LCIA Court is the final authority for the proper application of the LCIA rules. Its principal functions are appointing tribunals, determining challenges to arbitrators, and controlling costs.
Arthur expressed his gratitude for the LCIA’s trust, stating: "The LCIA, as the world’s oldest international arbitration institution, holds an exceptional reputation globally. Its arbitration rules are innovatively and forwardly designed, and the cases it administers are distinguished by their pronounced international character. I am deeply honoured to be appointed as a Member of the LCIA Court. I am delighted to gain more opportunities to collaborate with international peers and eagerly anticipate sharing China’s insights and expertise in dispute resolution with the global arbitration community."
Dr. Dong brings nearly three decades of experience in cross-border dispute resolution, specializing in international commercial arbitration and litigation. His practice focuses on resolving complex disputes involving cross-border trade, distribution agreements, M&A, shareholder disputes, and IP-related matters.
Arthur has secured numerous landmark victories for clients in arbitrations administered by leading institutions, including the LCIA, ICC, HKIAC, SIAC, AAA-ICDR, JAMS, CIETAC, etc. He has also successfully obtained recognition and enforcement of multiple foreign arbitral awards in Chinese courts.
Arthur is also a sought-after arbitrator, regularly appointed by parties and leading international arbitration institutions.
He also serves as a Council Member of the HKIAC, and a member of the HKIAC Proceedings Committee.
Arthur is consistently ranked by prestigious legal directories, including Chambers & Partners, the Legal 500 (named “Lawyer of the Year: Arbitration” in 2023 and 2024), Lexology Index (formly Who's Who Legal), Benchmark Litigation, etc.
